Birth Trauma & Postnatal Depression

A compassionate, non-judgemental space to process a difficult birth experience, or the low mood and exhaustion that can follow having a baby.

Support for Birth Trauma

A difficult, frightening or medically complicated labour and delivery can leave a lasting impact, even when your baby was born safely. You may have felt unheard, unsafe, or that things were happening to your body without your control. This can lead to intrusive memories, anxiety, difficulty bonding, or avoiding things that remind you of what happened. I offer a safe, non-judgemental space to talk through your birth experience, at whatever pace feels right for you, without having to minimise what you went through.

Tailored Support for Postnatal Depression

Postnatal depression can bring a heavy sense of exhaustion, low mood, guilt or disconnection - feelings that can be hard to admit to, especially when you feel you're expected to be happy. You might feel like you're going through the motions, struggling to bond, or worried that you're not the parent you expected to be. I offer a calm, judgement-free space to talk honestly about how you're feeling and find a way through that feels manageable for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my birth trauma "count" if my baby was born safely?
Yes. Trauma is about how an experience affected you, not just the medical outcome. If your birth has left you struggling, that's a valid reason to seek support.
Is what I'm feeling postnatal depression or just normal tiredness?
It can be hard to tell the difference, and you don't need a diagnosis to reach out. If how you're feeling is affecting your day-to-day life or sense of self, it's worth talking to someone.
How soon after giving birth can I start counselling?
Whenever feels right for you - there's no set timeframe. Some people come to counselling weeks after birth, others years later.
Do you offer online counselling for this?
Yes, I offer in-person sessions in Norwich as well as online and telephone counselling across the UK.
